When building your Zap, you may need to use values that are not available in your test records. You can edit your test record values, then use them in later Zap steps. This modified value only appears when building and testing your Zap. When you publish your Zap, it will use real, unedited data from your app.

Example

You want to set up a Filter step so that the Zap will only continue if the value in your trigger's Flavor field is "Guava". But, your trigger test record has the value "Lilikoi" instead. You can edit your test record by removing "Lilikoi" as the value in the Flavor field and replacing it with "Guava".

Select a new trigger test record

You can either select a new trigger test record from your trigger step or select a previous Zap run to use a test record.

From trigger step From Zap runs

Select from trigger step

In your Zap:

  1. In the upper right, click Edit Zap (or Edit draft if a previous draft exists) to enter edit mode.
  2. Select your trigger step.
  3. Select the Test tab.
  4. Select either:
    1. Another test record from the list.
    2. Click Find new records to search for and select a new test record.

  3. Select Use as test record.
  4. In your trigger step, the Zap run will appear as a test record with the title “Record from Zap Run”.

You can rename or delete the Zap run test record by clicking the settings icon next to the run, then selecting the appropriate option from the dropdown menu.

After you finish editing:

After you revert:

Limitations

  • You can create up to 20 modified trigger records.
  • When you edit a step in your Zap:
    • If you change a required field, the step test is reset. You should re-test the step to ensure there are no errors.
    • If you change an optional field, the step test result is retained. You do not need to re-test the step, but you can if you want to test the changed field.
  • Modified trigger test records do not change the original data in your trigger app. They only exist as a copy within Zapier.
  • You cannot modify test records that you selected from a previous Zap run.
