Dropbox and Zapier work together to automate your file management. You can use triggers like new or updated files to automatically upload, move, or share files and folders.
Prerequisites
To use the Dropbox app on Zapier, you must have:
- A paid Dropbox plan.
Connect Dropbox to Zapier
To create an app connection to Dropbox on Zapier:
- Go to the Apps page.
- Click + Add connection.
- A new dialog box will appear. Search for and select Dropbox.
- Click Add connection.
- A new browser tab or window will open.
- Log into Dropbox to authenticate.
- Grant Zapier permission to access your account if prompted to.
Your Dropbox account is now successfully connected to Zapier.

Triggers, searches, and actions
Triggers
- New Folder - Triggers when a new folder is added. Make sure the number of files/folders in the watched folder does not exceed 6000.
- New or Updated File - Triggers when a new file is added or updated in a folder. Make sure the number of files/folders in the watched folder does not exceed 6000.
- New File in Folder- Triggers when a new file is added to a folder. Make sure the number of files/folders in the watched folder does not exceed 6000.
Searches
- Find Folder - Finds a folder by name. Make sure the number of files/folders in the watched folder does not exceed 6000.
- Find File (Content Search) - Searches for files in a folder that match a search term in the contents or name. Requires a Dropbox Business account.
- Find File - Search for a specific file by name. Make sure the number of files/folders in the watched folder does not exceed 6000.
Actions
- Delete File - Deletes the specified file.
- Create Folder - Creates a brand new folder at the path you specify.
- Move File - Moves a file to a new location at the path you specify.
- Create or Append to Text File - Adds a new line to an existing text file, or creates a file if it doesn't exist.
- Create Shared Link - Creates a shared link for a file.
- Copy File - Creates a copy of a file in a new location.
- Delete Folder - Deletes the specified folder.
- Upload File - Upload an existing file or attachment not bigger than 500 MB.
- Create Text File - Creates a brand new text file from plain text content you specify.
- Rename File - Renames a file that you specify.
- API Request (Beta) - This is an advanced action which makes a raw HTTP request that includes this integration's authentication.
Limitations
- Zapier's Dropbox integration cannot handle files over 100 MB, which can cause upload loops and missing file data in triggers.
- When sending files to Dropbox, they must be either a file object or URL. Text (.txt) files are not supported.
