With Formatter's Random Number transform, you can generate a random number that can be used in other Zap steps.

This can be useful if, for example, you need to randomly select the winner of a prize draw.

1. Add a Formatter step to your Zap

In the Zap outline, click the Action step or the plus sign + to add a new action. A dialog box will open.
In the search box, search for and select Formatter. The right sidebar will open to the Setup tab.
Click the Action event dropdown menu and select Numbers.
Click Continue.

Next, set up the action:

Click the Transform dropdown menu and select Random Number.
You must select the range the step will use to select a number. You can enter a number or map data from a previous step.
- Lower range: the lowest number that can be selected.
- Upper range: the highest number that can be selected.
- Decimal points: how many decimal places to use for the resulting number.
Click Continue.

Click Test step. If the transformation is successful, the step will return a random number. The result will change every time the step is run.

Once you’ve set your Formatter step to generate a random number, you can add other actions to use the result in your Zap.
