Zapier includes GPT-4o mini (the default model) and GPT-4.1 mini with any chatbot. You can add your own API key to your Zapier Chatbots account to use other OpenAI and Anthropic models.

Get your API key

You must generate an API key to use different models with Zapier Chatbots.

OpenAI ChatGPT

Learn how to get your ChatGPT API key.

  • You must have a payment method set up on your OpenAI account. Any usage will be charged to your OpenAI account.

Anthropic Claude

Learn how to get your Claude API key.

  • You must have credit available on your account to generate an API key. Any usage will be charged to your Anthropic account.

Connect your account

To create a connection using your own secret API key:

  1. From your Chatbots home, click the name of the chatbot.
  2. In the Instructions tab, scroll down to the AI Model section.
  3. Click the link for your provider under the Model authentication field. A new window or tab will open.
    • Click Add connection.
    • Paste your API key in the field provided.
    • Click Yes, Continue.

Once you select a connection, the Model dropdown menu will display the models available for your account. The model selection may not reflect what you see on your OpenAI account, as not all models are available through an API.
