MCP, or Model Context Protocol, is an open protocol that standardizes how applications provide context to large language models (LLMs). Zapier MCP provides a server endpoint for connecting your Zapier account to an AI client, such as Claude or Cursor.
This article explains how to set up an MCP server with some of the most popular clients.
This product is in open beta. It’s available for use but still in active development and may change.
Why use MCP with your AI client?
When you use Zapier MCP, you can add Zapier's library of almost 8,000 apps to your AI, allowing it to interact with your existing apps and take action in them directly from your AI conversations.
Requirements
To use Zapier MCP with your client, you'll need:
- A Zapier MCP server endpoint.
- Tools set up for your endpoint.
- An AI client, such as Claude, Cursor, or Windsurf.
1. Generate your Zapier MCP server endpoint
- Visit https://mcp.zapier.com/.
- Click + New MCP Server. A dialog box will open.
- In the MCP Client dropdown menu, select your client.
- Select Other if your client does not appear on the list.
- In the Name field, enter a name for your server.
- Click Create MCP Server. The dialog box will close.
- In the top menu bar, select the Connect tab.
- Click Copy URL to copy your MCP server URL to the clipboard. The name of the field where the URL appears depends on which client you select.
Your MCP server URL is like a password. Do not share it, as it can be used to run your actions and access your data.
Rotate your server URL
If your client uses a server-specific URL, you can rotate your server URL to ensure your data is secure.
- In the left sidebar of the MCP home, select a server.
- In the top menu bar, select the Connect tab.
- Click the Rotate secret icon to regenerate your MCP server URL.
This will invalidate your previous URL, preventing unauthorized access.
2. Set up your tools
Each MCP server you create uses separate tools: actions within apps you've given the server access to.
- In the left sidebar of the MCP home, select a server. The Configure tab will open.
- Click + Add tool. A dialog box will open.
- Search for and select the app you want to use.
- Select an action from the list.
- Click the Find data tab to filter the list for actions that can search for data.
- Click the Take action tab to filter the list for actions that can change data.
- Select a connection from the dropdown menu, or create a new connection by clicking the Settings icon.
- If you have already set up other tools for that app in Zapier MCP, the tool is ready to use.
- Fill out any other fields that may be required for the action. You can set a specific value for a field, have AI select a value, or give AI a list of values to choose from. Learn more about these options.
- To see optional fields, click Show all options.
- Click Save.
Learn how to edit, delete, and review your MCP tools.
3. Connect the server to your AI client
You can use Zapier MCP with any AI client that supports MCP, using either a server-specific URL or an OAuth URL. If you select one of the clients that are preset within Zapier MCP, you'll see only the URL type used by that client.
Claude
- From the Zapier MCP home, select your Claude server.
- In the top menu bar, select the Connect tab.
- In the Integration URL field, click Copy. This will copy your server URL to your clipboard.
- Visit claude.ai/settings/integrations.
- Click Add more.
- Give the integration a name and paste in your Zapier MCP server URL.
- Click Add.
Once you add the server, all users in your Claude organization can add their own tools.
- To add a new server, you must be the owner of your Claude organization.
- To use Zapier MCP in Claude Desktop, you must first complete the steps above on Claude.ai.
- Access to add MCP servers on Claude.ai and Claude Desktop is dependent on your Claude plan.
Cursor
- From the Zapier MCP home, select your Cursor server.
- In the top menu bar, select the Connect tab.
- In the Configuring Zapier MCP in Cursor section, click Add to Cursor and confirm you want the link to open Cursor on your computer. The configuration should be done automatically.
If you need to make changes to the configuration or want to do it manually:
- In the Configuring Zapier MCP in Cursor section, click Copy in the code snippet window to get the JSON snippet with a placeholder server URL.
- In Cursor, paste the code snippet into Cursor's MCP settings.
- Go back to the Connect tab of your Zapier MCP server and click Copy URL to get your unique MCP server URL.
- In the Cursor MCP settings, replace the placeholder URL in the code snippet with your server's URL.

Windsurf
- From the Zapier MCP home, select your Windsurf server.
- In the top menu bar, select the Connect tab.
- In the Configuring Zapier MCP in Windsurf section, click Copy in the code snippet window to get the JSON snippet with a placeholder server URL.
- In Windsurf, paste the code snippet into Windsurf's MCP settings.
- Go back to the Connect tab of your Zapier MCP server and click Copy URL to get your unique MCP server URL.
- In the Windsurf MCP settings, replace the placeholder URL in the code snippet with your server's URL.

All other clients
When adding a new MCP server, if you select Other in the MCP Client field, Zapier MCP will generate two URLs. Use the one that works with the client you want to use:
- Server-specific URL: a unique URL that connects your AI to your Zapier MCP server.
- OAuth URL: this URL can be used in different clients that support OAuth. Zapier MCP will automatically provision a new server with a unique URL when you connect your MCP client via OAuth.
Ensure you select the correct server URL type for your client.
Review your server's history
The History tab displays a list of all actions taken through the client for that server. Click an action to see details such as:
- Date and time when the action happened.
- The tool name.
- Instructions used by the AI.
- The values used in each field.
- The final output of the action.
Use the filter dropdown menu to display only actions related to a specific tool.
Delete an MCP server
To delete a server:
- From the Zapier MCP home, hover over your server name.
- Click the Delete MCP server icon . A dialog box will open.
- Confirm the action by clicking Delete.
- When you delete an MCP Server, it will stop working on any MCP Client you connected that server to.
- All the server logs will also be deleted. Tool calls consumed for a deleted server will still count toward your quota.
