When using Gmail in your Zaps, you see the error message “The app returned "Quota exceeded for quota metric 'Queries' and limit 'Queries per minute per user' of service 'gmail.googleapis.com' for consumer 'project_number:...." You’ll see this error in the details of a Zap run in your Zap's history. Your Zap runs will be held in your Zap history.
Causes
This happens when you have reached your daily API usage limit for Gmail, causing your Zap to throttle (rate limiting). This occurs when you have many Zaps containing Gmail triggers and actions running at once.
How to fix it
Zapier Free or Trial plan users
- Review Gmail’s usage limits. Usage limits vary depending on the type of Gmail account you have.
- Replay the Zap run. This will retry the steps for your affected Zap runs.
- Optimize your Zaps by removing unnecessary Gmail steps. This will help reduce the number of requests sent to Gmail.
Zapier paid plan users
- Review Gmail’s usage limits. Usage limits vary depending on the type of Gmail account you have.
- Enable autoreplay for your Zap. This will automatically replay affected Zap runs until all are played.
- If you’re using Gmail triggers, adjust the flood protection limit for a Zap to reduce it. This can be increased to trigger from 100 to 1,500 new events at once.
- Add a Delay After Queue step to your Zap, which holds actions for a specific time before running them.
- Optimize your Zaps by removing unnecessary Gmail steps. This will help reduce the number of requests sent to Gmail.
