Copilot is an AI-powered assistant that you can use to help you create and edit a Zap. Describe the workflow you want, and Copilot will create a basic outline of a trigger and one or more actions, then help you configure, test, and refine each step. You can use Copilot to:
- Build a Zap outline for you.
- Build your Zap one step at a time by continuing to prompt it to add new steps.
- Add or replace steps in your Zap.
- Edit previously published Zaps.
- Suggesting values for fields in a step.
- Explain what the fields you see in a step do.
This feature is in open beta. It’s available for use but still in active development and may change.
Build with Copilot

- (Optional) Click the microphone icon to use voice recognition to dictate your workflow.
- (Optional) Click the file icon to attach an image or file.
- Click the dropdown menu icon to expand the dropdown menu.
- Select either:
- Auto-build: Copilot will automatically set up as much of your Zap as possible. This is the default.
- Ask as you build: Copilot will ask you to confirm its suggestions before it takes action.
- Click Start Building.
- This will expand the Copilot sidebar on the left.
You can enter prompts like:
- When a customer makes a payment in QuickBooks, find the customer's open deal in HubSpot, then mark it as closed.
- If someone posts in Discord, send me a notification in Slack.
- New Google Sheets row Send Gmail email.
Use auto-build feature
When you use auto-build, each time you prompt Copilot, it will automatically build as much of your Zap for you as it can. For each step, it will auto-populate:
- Apps and action events.
- A connected app account if one already exists.
- Field values, including mapped fields.
As it builds, Copilot will summarize its actions in the left sidebar. If you want more details about its logic, click to expand Show reasoning. The left sidebar will also provide instructions for items it cannot perform on your behalf. You must complete them to finish the Zap.
You can refine your workflow at any time by chatting with Copilot in the prompt box at the bottom of the left sidebar. Press the enter key on your keyboard or click the send icon
to have Copilot complete your request. When you're done, click Publish in the top right corner to turn your Zap on.Use ask as you build feature
When you use ask as you build, Copilot will make suggestions for you, but it will not perform any actions without your confirmation. For each step, it will suggest:
- Steps, apps, and action events.
- A connected app account if one already exists for the app used in a step.
- Field values, including mapped fields.

Create checkpoints
You can create a checkpoint in your Copilot flow by clicking the clock
at the top of the Copilot sidebar.- Checkpoints allow you to save a version of your Zap at that point in the Copilot flow so you can revert your workflow back to the state it existed in at that checkpoint.
- To revert, click Revert at the checkpoint. A dialog box will appear.
- Review and compare the checkpoint version of your workflow against the current version of your workflow.
- Click Cancel to keep the current version.
- Click Revert to revert to the checkpoint version.
When you revert back to a checkpoint, you will not be able to revert to any other previous checkpoints until you add a new checkpoint.

Limitations
- Zaps are limited to 100 steps, including all steps within paths.
- If you need more than 100 steps, you can separate your Zap into multiple Zaps.
- During a free trial, only the first 30 steps of a Zap will run.
- Each action step has a limit of 1,000 fields.
- This includes fields like Name and Email Address that are standard in your app and custom fields that you create in your app.
- If you're a member of a Zapier Enterprise account and your account admins or owners enabled publishing restrictions, you must request their approval before the Zap can be published.
- Copilot will auto-select app connections for you based on the following logic, in descending order:
- Any app connection that matches the email address associated with your Zapier account.
- Your most commonly used app connection if you have more than one for an app.
- Any app connection that you have access to.
- If no app connection matches any of the above, Copilot will prompt you to connect your app account.
