How app versions affect your Zaps When do I need to update my app version? How to update to the latest app version Switching between app versions

Over time, apps on Zapier are updated with new versions, called app versions. Developers release app versions when they improve an app or fix bugs.

How app versions affect your Zaps

Zapier automatically updates your Zaps to the latest version when necessary. However, after releasing a new version, it may take time for Zapier to update your Zaps. Sometimes, the new version’s breaking changes prevent Zapier from updating your Zaps.

In most cases, your Zaps can continue with the previous version. You can identify an app using an earlier version if the version number appears in the title without app tags. For example, Slack (1.2.2).

If your app version deprecates and Zapier cannot update it automatically, we’ll email you instructions on how to update it yourself. Once the deprecation date arrives, Zaps using that version will pause.  You can identify deprecated apps by “(Deprecated)” in the title or the “(Deprecated)” app tag.

When do I need to update my app version?

App version types UI appearance Recommendation
Latest  No action needed. This is the recommended and fully supported version.
Specific app version You can continue using this specific app version. However, it will not include the latest enhancements and features. Updating to the latest version is recommended if you experience any issues.
Legacy

You can continue using it but it is no longer fully supported. Updating to the latest version is recommended to resolve potential bugs.
Deprecating

Plan to update to the latest version before the end-of-life (EOL) date to ensure continued functionality. After the EOL date, the app will no longer work.
Deprecated

You must update to the latest app version. After the end-of-life (EOL) date, this app version will no longer work. Zaps using it will be turned off on the EOL date.

How to update to the latest app version

To update an existing Zap to the latest app version:

  • Go to the Zap editor.
  • Click the affected step. The right sidebar will open to the Setup tab.
  • In the App field, click Change.
  • Search for and select the app as it appears without any specific version numbers or app tags like “Legacy” or “Deprecated”.

You should test your trigger or action step to ensure it works as expected.

Switching between app versions

If you have access to multiple versions of public or private apps, you can switch between them. Otherwise, you can update but not switch back once you have published the draft of your Zap.

For Enterprise plan users experiencing issues after selecting the latest app version, you can use version rollback to revert changes.
